Goals and Objectives
1. Contextual Development of local skills and Building a festival economy:
The project aims to advance the contextual Mentorship and Arts Residency programs to long-term creative skilling courses that will lead to livelihood opportunities. We want to build a sustainable festival economy, foreground the existing creative industries, develop sustainable business models around the arts festival, along with capacity building and upskilling the community within Govandi.
2. Strategic long-term partnerships:
Reports have shown that quality of housing has a significant impact on human development indicators, mainly related to health and education. Thus, we aim to forge long-term partnerships with other nonprofits and community organisations who work on such challenges through tools of creative education. We also aim to build a network of legacy partners including the local governing bodies (BMC/MMRDA/Cultural Ministry). Through these collaborative methods we bring in knowledge, resources, and expertise to the community.
3. Scaling community outreach:
We aim to work with at least 4 more resettlement colonies within Govandi – Shivaji Nagar, Lallubhai, Lotus Colony, PMG Colony along with Natwar Parekh, to widen access to art and effect a Ward level intervention to bring the spatial precarity of resettlement neighborhoods in the M East ward to light.
4. Mitigating the impact of the poor infrastructure practices:
Marginalized communities in Govandi are disproportionately affected by poor building practices due to the city’s unjust policies. The neighborhood also has low levels of social infrastructure for health and educational facilities. This project aims to tackle this by building awareness, designing programs, through public advocacy, adapting to climate changes, and more.
